I’m sick of magical worlds with no technology. I want fairy run coffee shops where you can get a latte with a shot of charisma, because you’ve got a big presentation you’re worried about, or witches working at Apple selling phones that automatically appear in your pocket if you accidentally leave it somewhere, or psychics running hair salons who always know how you want your hair to look, or aura reader therapists. I just really want normalized magic in modern society

This is one of my first Poppets. I’d like to say a little something about knot magick though =D what’s so nice about the poppet with the knot magick is that the magick almost takes a life of its own =) especially when you’ve crafted your own and look at what you created ^_^
I love knot magick because it’s simple but powerful  Intuitive! For example if you wanted to make a wish cord, you could do the universal knot chant “By knot of one, this spell is done (Then I whisper my wish into the knot as i tie it as if it has already come true), By knot of two, this spell is true (I whisper another affirmation that my wish is manifested), By knot of three, So mote it Be (I whisper thank you for bringing my wish into being).” From there I can do whatever with the cord. I can place the cord in a white/ gold poppet as a protective doll, under my pillow for dreams, on my wall where I’ll see it every day for a wish and say thanks every time. Knot magick is also very good for binding. You could say like, “This person is bound. From harm i’m not found. Make life peaceful and sound” Do something similar to the little spell said above but saying you are protected from harm. Make 4 cords and hang them on four walls of a room to create a barrier. They’re magick can be released/ neutralized by creating a purifying fire and burning them, or by dunking them in salt water and cutting the knots

Witchry’s Layman Guide to Poppets

witchry:

What is a poppet?
A poppet is a doll that is used to represent a person during a spell.

When should I use a poppet?
When you feel like, however remember that poppets can be rather powerful by their nature, so depending on what you are intending to do with this poppet use appropriate safety measures.

Extrapolate?
One of the reasons I am writing this article is because a week ago I saw a blog post a spell for ridding yourself of impatience, and in that spell it said to use herbs and vegetables with rather negative consequence (which is okay by their selves, or in another spell) and to make a poppet of yourself and set it aflame.  My personal (any many other’s) advice is to not set a poppet of yourself on fire with warding herbs and spices. It just isn’t a good idea.

So poppets are only for cursing?
It depends on who you talk to, but no, they don’t have to be only used for cursing. However, use some common sense. If there is a magic(k)ed doll representative of a person, use your deductive reasoning as to how you want the outcome to unfold. Treat a poppet sweetly for a kind outcome. Treat the poppet cruelly for a hateful outcome.

What are some ways to make a poppet?

  • sewn up fabric fabric doll (old classic)
  • sewn up paper doll
  • wax dolls
  • flower doll (bind the fresh flowers with twine or string to resemble human)
  • clay doll
  • butter sculpture
  • hair doll

Really, I could go on for ages on how to do this, but really it is up to you as to what feels best.

What to do with the poppet:
Depending on what material your poppet is you can do any or more of these things

  • fill the poppet with objects
  • stick or wrap objects into the poppet
  • dissolve oils into the poppet
  • add a wick to the poppet to melt it down (in the case of a wax poppet)
  • set it aflame
  • submerge or drown it in water
  • bury it
  • box it

Some suggestions for a kind outcome:

  • flower petals (either using symbolic love or friendship, or a flower the intended loves)
  • herbs which you would usually use for a kind outcome
  • silks, satins, mohairs, fur, leather (a type of material that is comforting, or soft, protective or sexy- whatever your intend)
  • oils and perfume
  • hair, spit, fingernail clippings, semen, blood, etc.

Some suggestions for a cruel outcome:

  • nails (preferably rusty)
  • broken glass
  • push pins
  • herbs which you would usually use for a cruel outcome
  • gasoline (BE. CAREFUL. obviously do not use a flame on a gasoline soaked poppet unless you have done so before and in a well ventilated open area with a fire extinguisher on hand)
  • fire (to burn)
  • water (to drown)
  • hair, spit, fingernail clippings, semen, urine, feces, flesh, blood, etc.
  • bugs, decaying meat, etc.

Okay, I hope I have covered a wider area on how to use poppets. I am not claiming to be the best source their is out there (or even on here), but I do think what I have to offer is good advice. I have not included religion, origins, or how to make a spell or ritual with a poppet because it varies depending on the tradition you are using. Please do a further research.

Please, the number one thing I want to stress about using a poppet is use your damn common sense.

-Don’t do things that are normally hateful to a poppet and expect a sweet outcome, and vice versa.
-Start small and work your way up to bigger and better things.
-Don’t make a poppet of yourself and burn it if you are a beginner.
-Finally, remember, leave yourself an exit strategy- give yourself a way out to break your spell and destroy your poppet  if (or when) the time comes.

Revenge Curse Cage

I’m not fucking around anymore.

These are less instructions and more documentation/demonstration because this was fashioned specifically for someone and is not meant to be duplicated as a general curse.  For duplication, switch up the starred (*) ingredients.

MATERIALS:

- Simple poppet
- Small jar
- Black candle - targets name carved into it
- White candle
- Permanent marker - for a lasting effect
Loose incense and charcoal to burn it on

For the Poppet:
- Target’s handwriting
- Target’s photograph
- Target’s signature
- Target’s article in paper*
- Various Sigils to spell out intent*
- Coffee beans* - heart
- Gagroot - mouth - choke on your words
-Hot Pepper - throat - to stop spreading shit
- Black Pepper - to stop spreading shit
- Basil* - owes me money

In the Jar:
- Toothpicks around the edge
- Black salt
- Storm water
- Lime juice - stop spreading shit
- Peppermint extract* - to cool any undeserved hatred they have of me
- Vinegar - to make them eat their words/stop spreading shit
-Spit of hatred

METHOD:

1) I created the poppet out of useless rags—as a symbol of who it would come to symbolize.  This was nothing too complicated, simple gingerbread-person pattern hand sketched onto two pieces of fabric, cut and sewn together.  I chose to sew it completely, and cut a hole in the chest afterwards for stuffing.  (It was stuffed with the remainder of the scrap fabric to give it shape)

2) I spent a great deal of time creating twenty different sigils (that I might decide to share later in more detail).  These I wrote on corresponding/relating body parts of both sides of the poppet.

3) Gathering all my materials together, I carved the target’s name into a black candle.  I lit some specially-blended loose incense as I whispered my intent for the target to the poppet, stuffing it with images of the target to bind them together.  Three coffee beans were placed at the heart (as for why—that is something I keep to myself for the sake of anonymity); a hot pepper down the throat; gagroot, basil and  black pepper ground together were placed in last before sewing the poppet shut.

4) When the incense burned out and I was left with a charcoal, I burned a poem I had written as a symbol of my rage.  When it had turned to ash I doused the charcoal with storm water. This blackness I mixed with salt to create a very specific black salt.  This salt I rubbed all over the target until the poppet became completely black.  Then I placed the poppet in the jar

5) I then filled the jar with the remainder of the loose incense and black salt, some more storm water, lime juice, and peppermint extract.  Then I pushed thirteen toothpicks into the jar around the edges, like long thin nails surrounding the poppet—a cage.  When the black candle burned out, I placed its remains in the jar along with it.

6) Because I did not want any of this energy out in my living space, I decided to seal the jar with white wax.  White to keep the negative in, contrasting with the black salt like a barrier between worlds.  Lighting a white candle I allowed the wax to drip all down the edges of the jar, creating a second “cage”, using the entire candle.

How to Make a Poppet

thiscrookedcrown:

Now, I’m going to be upfront:

  • This post was written during the process of making a poppet for cursing. While this post can be used for ANY poppet for ANY purpose.
  • Is image heavy; many of the photos are shaky. This is common when I photograph my spell work. I don’t know why but I have my suspicions.
  • Features photographs of charged ingredients, sigils, and spells.
  • Talks about curses
  • Features a mini how-to break glass safely.
  • This is an attempt to be traditionally neutral. I do things different than others and thus my own methods bleed through. Remember to work within and adapt to your own cultural background, paradigm, and practice.
  • Trigger warnings: blood, glass, curses, Gov. Rick Perry, poppets, sigils, spells, energy, charged items, etc. I’m sure there are others I’m missing but there you go.

This is a follow along using simple ingredients. It starts with how to make the poppet, talks about filling it, making the face and personalizing it, and then finishing it up. Away we go.
